Figma Ayanami Rei Plugsuit Ver. by Max Factory

Received two months ago but unopened until today, figma Ayanami Rei Plugsuit Ver. by Max Factory.

Unlike the terrible disappointment that was figma Asuka, Rei doesn't have any fault in the sculpt, albeit as a figma is rather plain.

The accessories consist in three faces (neutral, angry and smiling), 11 hands (one of them holding Shinji's S-DAT player) and an Eva cockpit like the ones included with figma Asuka and figma Mari

Neutral face.
Unlike Mari and specially Asuka, the breast part have no problem this time.

Smiling face holding the S-DAT. Not really visible in the photo, but I received my copy with a profound scratch across her right eye.

Angry face.

And the cockpit.

And finally a rear shot. Her buttocks is not as nice as Asuka's or Mari's.

Figma Shikinami Asuka Langley Test Plugsuit Ver. by Max Factory

Received today, Figma Shikinami Asuka Langley Test Plugsuit Ver. by Max Factory.

Since I'm quite angry with it, I'll begin the review with the most glaring fault:

What the heck is that!? I complained about how Figma Mari breast piece was sort of disjointed from the rest of the body, but this is too much! Is not a solid piece, but a hollow chunk of rubber hanging there with a vaguely form resembling a breast!

This is the first time I feel cheated buying a figma, since the promotional shots are completely different from the final product.

Okay, after the rant let's proceed with the rest of the review.

Asuka comes with three faces (smiling, embarrassed and yelling), 11 hands (one of them holding a cell phone), the creepy doll (pictured above) and two different sets of hairs, one with movable twintails and the other fixed.

Holding the cell phone. The smiling face is a bit too neutral for a hot blooded character like Asuka.

Angry face and another shot of how bad the breasts looks in almost every angle.

Back shot and the fitting ashamed face.

And like Mari, she also comes with a full cockpit.

I'm not too fond of Asuka's overkill fanservice plugsuit, but with those ugly breasts this figma became my second least favorite one (the worst is Drossel Gizmo ver.), even when Asuka is my favorite Evangelion character.
I hope Max Factory will release a "normal plugsuit version" with a better sculpt.

Figma Makinami Mari Illustrious New Plugsuit Ver. by Max Factory

Received a while back, today I opened Figma Makinami Mari Illustrious New Plugsuit Ver. by Max Factory.

Mari appears in the Evangelion movie with too different plugsuits; a green one at the beginning and a pink one at the end. Max Factory opted to start the Evangelion figma line with the newer character with her newer (and more stylish) plugsuit.

Mari's accessories consist in three faces (smiling, grinning and a "beast mode" face), 11 hands, two different sets of twintails (one normal and the other with the tails in front of her shoulders), a set of small parts to change to green the red parts of the plugsuit, and the most impressive part is a complete interior of the Eva cockpit.

The control levers are movable, and the legs zone can move horizontally as well. There are two figma bases included, one to use with the cockpit and one for the figure.

Most of the figma is made of rubber like plastic to be more similar to the synthetic-like textures of the plugsuit. The neck is, like Rider figma, double jointed and hidden in part by the neck part of the plugsuit.

The worst part of the figure is the torso area. The breast are separated from the rest of the body in order to move, but leaving a massive and clearly visible gap making an ugly "flying breast" effect.

Smiling face.

Grinning face.

The glasses are attached to the hair part, but can be easily removed.

The Beast mode. Green eyed yelling face, the dot of the plugsuit can be turned green via a very small piece, and the wrist parts can be changed with alternate parts with green dots instead of red. The hair part is the alternate one, too.

Saber Alter Figma by Max Factory

The other figure that I received yesterday was Saber Alter Figma by Max Factory.

Again, a figma that is scarce in accesories: 10 hands (6 left and 4 right), dark Excalibur, 2 faces (normal and yelling) and a extra frontal part of hair that contains the visor.
Like Rider figma, the neck is double jointed (at the base and the top) and is slightly longer than usual. The armor have an easily movable joint between the torso and the breast plate, and the elbows and shoulders joints are hidden by the rubber clothing.
This is the most easily poseable figma so far.

Unlike the regular Armor Saber figma, the lower part of the armor and the skirt are molded together.

I never liked the visor. There's no point to blind yourself with a metal-like solid visor, except if you are Rider.

The yelling face seems a bit dorky. I suppose is because her face is very pale and makes way too much contrast with the opened mouth... or because the eyes doesn't seem focused.

Comparison shot with regular Saber figma.

Rider Figma by Max Factory

I was lucky to secure a Rider Figma by Max Factory in AmiAmi few minutes before it was sold out.

Rider comes with the usual figma base, 5 pairs of hands, a couple of faces (normal and yelling), a removable mask and her twin daggers, each with a metal chain of about 30 cm each.
It comes with relatively few accessories, but since Rider is pretty tall in figma standards and have a massively long hair, you don't feel like purchasing an almost empty box.

Rider
figma uses a new double jointed neck (no more hunchback aspect), and have an extra articulation hidden in the knee socks. Still, you can't pose her on all fours, top-down bottom-up, like one of her trademark CG from the game.

Rider massive hair is done in two parts of hard plastic, each with a joint, and a external layer of soft PVC hair. It gives an uniformity feel.

The union point of the front piece of hair and the rest is rather ugly if you see the figure's side...

The mask is detachable.

And this is the alternate yelling face. The mask can be put on this face too.

Canaan Nendoroid and Figma

Nendoroid Canaan by Good Smile Company and Figma Canaan by Max Factory.

The anime CANAAN was not as good as I expected, but perhaps expected way too much from it.
It had an incredible animation and excellent character design, but the pace and the interesting setting drops a lot after the first few episodes and doesn't recovers until the last few episodes. They wasted 6 or 7 episodes in a 13 episodes series, leaving lots of things unexplained and finish it with a reset button ending (well, almost, since there are missing things).

Well returning to the figures, Nendoroid Canaan includes 3 faces, a bagpack, a Beretta and a sugar stick, as well as several arms and two pairs of legs.

Standard pose, with the serious face.

Synesthetic eyes face and the extra legs to do the pose from the upcoming 1/8 Canaan figure by Good Smile Company

Happy face, bagpack and sugar stick.

Figma Canaan
comes with the same 3 faces, the Beretta and one of the left hands carrying a sugar stick. For a figma, the accesories are somewhat scarce...

Happy face and sugar stick.

The neck is facing a bit towards the front and gives Canaan a hunchbacked aspect. Some of the figma that I own also have the same particularity in the sculpt (Shirou and Drossel, for example) but is more noticeable in Canaan because of her slender body.

Synesthetic eyes face and a lousy attempt to do the 1/8 Canaan figure pose.

An extra part to do a "firing effect" is included, but only looks good in photos.

The serious face. The gun can slide a bit to "reload".

Fireball dvd + Drossel Gizmo ver. figma

Yesterday I received the Winter Package Limited Edition Fireball Dvd.

Actually, I first ordered it in the batch released in August, but since I made the pre-order when was still in Japan and for some odd reason was unable to change the shipping address to Spain, at the end the order was cancelled and I did the preorder of this version, that included another Drossel figma as an extra.

The contents: the outside box, the plain looking Figma box, the dvd and two leaflets.

My main reason of the purchase was the dvd and not the figure, that I find not so pretty and kinda out of character...

The sightseeing unit "Gizmo" is the continuous track propelled skiing equipment. Except the caterpillar part, the rest can't be removed.

Back side. The randoseru styled backpack is called "Zeeottaa" (ゼーオッター) that it's supposed to be German, but I'm unable to see the intended romanized spelling...

The head part is called head unit "Caspar", and both that and the googles can't be removed. The face cover is attached to the backpack.

All the accesories together. The yellow thing is a set of stickers intended to put in the red leg, but I'm not using it. Along the ski sticks, a pair of short ones are included. Both sets of sticks are called optic units "Iwerks".

Comparison of the size with the regular Figma Drossel.

The dvd itself is (as expected) very, very short. The 13 episodes are in total 23 minutes long, and the extras included are the 3 minutes long Making of Fireball, the '08 Tokyo Anime Fair trailer, a 20 seconds Tv comercial and a Disney Channel eyecatch featuring a magical girl styled Drossel.

Drossel making a magical girl transformation choreography. I made a gif from the scene first part here.

Unexpectedly, the Making of Fireball is made by the characters, so is not really a making of per se but an extra tongue in check episode.

Drossel explaining the hardships during the filming.

Ah... and Merry Xmas to my readers!
