1/10 Shijou Takane by Wave

The other figure that I received along Rin is 1/10 Shijou Takane by Wave, sculpted by Abira.

Shijou Takane is one of the two new idols in iDOLM@STER SP, and became my favorite idol as soon as I started to play. Takane is very mature for her age (17) and was raised to be the perfect ojou-sama without being two-faced, a tsundere or act like an spoiled brat.

As part of Beach Queens Treasure Figure Collection, is wearing the same swimsuit that uses in the game, the "Gravure mizugi". Is a classical skirted swimsuit with polka dots. With the silver hair gives her a bit of "granny fashion", but Takane already talks and behaves old fashioned.

She holds the sandals behind her back. The sandals are actually loose and hangs in the fingers.

She comes with two interchangeable faces: an open mouthed smile and an embarrassed smile. The open mouthed smile one doesn't look very good in the photos because the color of the mouth is too pale...

And this is the shy smile face. It looks cute, but I prefer the other one.

Bonus picture:
Takane with Rin's body. Looks a bit weird since Takane bust size is 90 and Rin's only 77...

1/10 Tohsaka Rin by Wave

Yesterday I received 2 figures, the first of them is 1/10 Tohsaka Rin by Wave.

If I recall correctly, this is the first time I purchase something made by Wave. The quality is not bad; the sculpt and paint job are good, but the size (about 16 cm, a head taller than a Figma) make it more similar to a trading figure than a proper figure... that is why the price is only half of the "normal" price range for figures.

The sculpt is by Okumura Yukio (circle the poppy puppet). Is not the best face I saw in a figure of Rin, but is not bad either.

The neck is jointed, so the head can move a little (albeit the poseability is very limited by the hair).

Since is part of the Beach Queens Treasure Figure Collection, Tohsaka is wearing her Fate/hollow ataraxia bikini.

Bonus picture:
The figures in the Beach Queens lines can swap heads, so this is Rin in Shijou Takane's swimsuit. I think I like her more in this rather conservative swimsuit than in her own...
In the next post I'll review Takane figure.

Fate/Extra finished (spoilers!)

Yesterday I finished my first playthrough of Fate/Extra.

It took me more than expected because of two main reasons:

- The Japanese level is way too difficult, and most of it isn't voiced. I understand Japanese if is at a "daily life" level, not when talking about cyber-wizards hacking the Moon. Also, Nasu's style of writing is confusing, inventing words and playing with okurigana...

-I tried my best, but I'm unable to enjoy the game. Most of the time I'm forcing myself to play it. Gameplay wise is like an ultra-simplified version of .hack games, heavily focused in a visual novel styled story instead of the gameplay.

And now, a brief summary of the story.
There are several outcomes for the game depending of the Servant you chose and an event in the middle of the game that allows you to choose between Rani and Rin.
I played as a male main character with Saber as a Servant and choosing Rin.

SPOILERS AHEAD!!

Year 2032. An ancient artifact is discovered on the moon, the Moon Cell, capable of fulfilling any wish.

The participants enter in the virtually created Tsukumihara Academy, and a system called Se.Ra.Ph allows them to summon a Servant based on the data recorded in the Moon Cell.

After a preliminary testing of candidates that goes for 4 days, there are at the end 128 participants that must fight the other Masters in a one-versus-one inside a maze-like area called Arena. The winner proceeds to the next phase and the loser is deleted both in the virtual world and in the real world, until only one of them remains.

Master: You (can be male or female)
Saber: Nero Claudius Caesar Augustus Germanicus

The main character is the only one of the 128 participants that doesn't have any memory of his real world self. At the end is revealed that the real body is kept frozen due an intractable disease for the last 30 years (like certain character in Cowboy Bebop) and you are the virtual version of that person.
His servant Saber real self is the Roman Emperor Nero. Due to several factors was blamed for the great fire of Rome, but she was a good ruler and all she wanted is her people to have fun. She truly loved her people but she was not loved back, and at the end committed suicide.
She's confident and full of herself and loves both men and women. No explanation of why is so similar to Saber-Arturia.

Saber telling you her real identity.

1st battle
Master: Matou Shinji
Rider: Francis Drake

Shinji is a 8 years old genius hacker that enters the Holy Grail War to show how cool he is, without taking as true the statement that the one who loses dies. His older appearance is because he's using an avatar. Like in the original Fate, he acts like an asshole towards everybody and dies miserably.
His servant is a gender-bent pirate Francis Drake. The official explanation of why the pointless gender change is "Drake was a woman in this world".

2nd battle
Master: Dan Blackmore
Archer: Robin Hood

Dan Blackmore is an elderly English gentleman. His absolute chivalrousness is shown when uses a command seal to forbid Archer to use his guerrilla tactics against the main character.
Archer identity is Robin Hood, but not as a single person but as the several nameless young men that used that name. He uses poisoned arrows and hit and run tactics, acting as a completely fag.

3rd battle
Master: Alice
Caster: Nursery Rhyme

Alice at first is thought to be twins, but in fact the Master is the one using the white doll-jointed goth loli avatar and Caster is Nursery Rhyme, the embodiment of the world of picture books for children. Nursery Rhyme doesn't have a body, so manifest itself as the will of his Master, in this case a mirror version of Alice herself.
Alice is terminally ill or even dead in the real world, and she only wants to avoid the pain and have fun.

At this point, Tohsaka Rin with Lancer and Rani VIII with Berserker will confront each other.

Rin & Lancer VS Rani & Berserker

Due to a certain hacking, you can see the battle and before the outcome you use a command spell to save one of the girls. The girl you save will lose her Servant and becomes your "irregular partner", and the other will eventually fight against you and die. I chose Rin.

4th battle
Master: Ranruu-kun
Lancer: Vlad the 3rd

Ranruu-kun is a woman dressed as the mascot character of a hamburger restaurant chain. She's twisted, and she only know to express love by eating (she already ate her own parents and her child). She wants the Holy Grail to make all the humanity like her.
Her Servant is Vlad the 3rd, the original model for Dracula, that is more screwed than his Master.

5th battle
Master: Julius B. Harvey
Assassin: Li Shuwen

First presented as the teacher Kuzuki Souichirou, he is in fact Julius, the brother of Leonard B. Harvey, hacking the profile of the original Kuzuki but using his own avatar.
In real world, he protects his brother in the shadows killing his opponents, and does the same here.
His servant real name is Li Shuwen, a Chinese martial artist. He conceals his presence and did a fatal attack that stopped the flow of magic between the main character and Saber, eventually restored with the help of Tohsaka Rin in a suggestive mana transfer scene.

"Heh heh, like this, you're surprisingly cute..."

Too bad there is a magic trap in the door that explodes before you can see the full scene...

6th battle
Master: Rani VIII
Berserker: Ryofu Housen

Rani VIII is, like Sion, an Atlas alchemist, but also an homunculus created specifically to take part in the Holy Grail War. She doesn't seem to follow her own will, and refer herself as a tool of her teacher.
Her servant is Ryofu Housen (Lu Bu in Chinese). As a Berserker he doesn't have any personality left, but he had the requirements to be any class besides Caster.

Final battle
Master: Leonard B. Harvey
Saber: Gawain

Leonard
is the heir of the Harvey family that pretty much owns the 60% of the real world. He's a nice and polite fellow that tries to make the wold a better place with the aid of the Holy Grail.
He introduces his servant as Gawain since the first day.
Gawain is one of the Knights of the Round Table and the nephew of King Arthur. Serious and chivalry-minded, he doesn't speak much. He holds the sword Excalibur-Gallatin (a sister sword of Excalibur), uses sun powered attacks and was invulnerable during the day until was hacked by Tohsaka.

After the battle, the main character, Rin and Saber go to the core of the Moon Cell, and are greeted by a man called Twice H. Pieceman.

Twice was a pacifist scientist killed in a terrorist attack 30 years ago, and the data of him contained in the Moon Cell became self aware.
He thinks that war is necessary for the humanity and confronts you with his Servant, Saver.

Saver true name is not revealed, but since is "the person that reached nirvana", most likely is Gautama Buddha.

After his defeat and a long monologue about the meaning of life and the like, the main character opts to seal the Moon Cell.
Then, the real world Tohsaka Rin receives an e-mail containing the data of the main character.

After that she smiles and promises to find the real body.

Fate/Extra Type-Moon Box + Figma Saber Extra

Yesterday I received the limited edition of the PSP game Fate/Extra: the TYPE-MOON box:

The contents are a Takeuchi illustrated box, a Saber (Extra version) figma, the game, the mini art-book Fate/Extra Visual Works and a soundtrack cd. I also received the booklet Fate /the Fact (a pre-order privilege) and a telephone card (the AmiAmi exclusive).

I only played the game a bit (I'm in the second week) and is pretty hard to understand (is almost no voiced and the wording is very Nasu-esque). For now I don't like that much, but I'll do a proper review once I'm over with it.

Fate/Extra Visual Works is a 15 page booklet attached to a cd case that includes a limited soundtrack. Each illustration takes 2 pages and all of them are drawn by Wada Arco except the one pictured, that is by Takeuchi Takashi.
I don't like Wada Arco's style at all, and since for me is TYPE-MOON = Takeuchi, I feel that this game is a completely unrelated project.

Rin is a blond terrorist in real world?!

Fate /the Fact is another 15 page booklet attached to a cd with a single video of less than 3 minutes with a motionless Rin speaking. The booklet is fashioned as a news magazine explaining the "real world" of Fate/Extra.

The main extra is Saber Extra figma. The accessories included are 6 pairs of hands, a sword (that is larger than herself) and an extra face and frontal hairpiece.

Both the red part and the semi-translucent part of the skirt are made of hard plastic instead of rubber-like parts of other Saber figmas.
Also note that the epaulettes are attached to the neck instead of the shoulders.

The ultra low skirt cut. This figma doesn't have a hole in the back so the only way to attach it to the base is with an extra clip to put in the waist.

The first face and hair, Wada Arco style.

The alternate face and hair, Takeuchi style. The eyelashes are different than the normal Saber.

Saber Alter Figma by Max Factory

The other figure that I received yesterday was Saber Alter Figma by Max Factory.

Again, a figma that is scarce in accesories: 10 hands (6 left and 4 right), dark Excalibur, 2 faces (normal and yelling) and a extra frontal part of hair that contains the visor.
Like Rider figma, the neck is double jointed (at the base and the top) and is slightly longer than usual. The armor have an easily movable joint between the torso and the breast plate, and the elbows and shoulders joints are hidden by the rubber clothing.
This is the most easily poseable figma so far.

Unlike the regular Armor Saber figma, the lower part of the armor and the skirt are molded together.

I never liked the visor. There's no point to blind yourself with a metal-like solid visor, except if you are Rider.

The yelling face seems a bit dorky. I suppose is because her face is very pale and makes way too much contrast with the opened mouth... or because the eyes doesn't seem focused.

Comparison shot with regular Saber figma.

Nendoroid Petit Fate/stay night by Good Smile Company

This morning I received a box of Nendoroid Petit Fate/stay night.

Since the complete set is 12 figures and a full box contains 12 individual boxes, you got a secured full set when purchasing a box. This beats the spirit of a "trading figure", but is a bless for the people that does otonagai.

The collection consist in two versions of each Fate/stay night main female character: Saber, Rin, Sakura, Illya and Rider, plus an extra pajamas Saber and a pull back car Hetare Saber.
The poses of half of them are based in the first Fate/stay night Trading Figures also by GSC.

Armor Saber, Excalibur version and Caliburn version.

Tohsaka Rin, "Red Devil" version and jewel magic version.

Matou Sakura, school uniform version and apron version.

Illyasviel, coat version and dress version.

Rider, dagger version (the mask is removable) and using Bellerophon summoning circle version.

And Saber in pajamas and the secret figure a pull back car Hetare Saber.

The only bad thing that I can think of is that the different versions are very similar, in most cases with the same clothes and almost the same faces... I'm not asking for 12 different characters (quite possible) but at least different clothes, since all 5 girls appeared in-game with at least one different set of clothing.

IDOLM@STER 2 announced

At last, the sequel to the original iM@S was announced: THE iDOLM@STER 2, will be a (for now) an Xbox 360 exclusive, to be released release in the spring of 2011.

All the characters are now one year older, so some of them are now significantly taller and/or have different hairstyles:

Makoto now have a rather feminine hairstyle, Miki, Iori, Azusa and Ritsuko also changed their hairstyles and Ami & Mami are now pretty tall and not a mirror image of each other anymore, so they act as two independent idols. The rest seems pretty much the same.

The gameplay is now focused in manage a 3 girls unit, with special emphasis on the trio leader. The details are pretty vague for now, but it seems that 5 girls units are also possible:

And finally, perhaps the most shocking new is that Hase Yurina aka Yurishii (formerly Ochiai Yurika), the voice actress of Yukiho, left the project and the new seiyuu will be a fairly unknown Asakura Azumi.
Yurishii left by her own, and considering all the unlucky events that happened before, is understandable.

As said, for now is an Xbox 360 exclusive, but considering that another Bandai-Namco game, Tales of Vesperia, was also an Xbox 360 exclusive and was ported to PS3 a year later with additional contents, there's still hope for the non-owners of Xbox.
